So here is another conundrum I'm currently in. I finally figured out the ignition in my truck, but now it won't stay running. it's acting like it's getting too much fuel, so I disconnected the fuel line from the carb and it started right up and ran beautifully until the carb ran out of fuel. I hooked up the fuel line again and it won't start, but when it fills the carb bowl, I can disconnect the fuel line and start the truck again. while it's running with the fuel line disconnected I try to connect the fuel line to the carb, immediately when I connect the line, the engine dies. I can plug the fuel inlet on the carb while it's running with no change, so i dont think its a vacuum problem there, and I have tried this now with two different carbs. any ideas guys?

Always check the simple things first.Check to see if the idle/coast solenoids are working correctly.Make sure that the wiring to shut the fuel pump off is correct(and anything else Vr alt etc).If the fuel pump is putting out too much pressure it will push the needle off the seat.Make sure that fuel emission lines are correct/not plugged.

Check the smaller return line for a clog, or just let it come straight out of the carb into a bottle/can/jar (safely of course) to see if the rest of the line is plugged. If you have an overly strong fuel pump the return will act as a bit of a pressure regulator or relief. If the return line is plugged somewhere between the carb and tank then it might be just as Cleaver said, too much pump pressure blowing fuel past the needle valve in the carb.

What are you using for a fuel pump? I've had quite a few different ones on LUVs over the years and never had one push THAT much fuel, always had just the opposite problem.
