Do the stock door locks interchange? my drivers door lock is broken and i wonder if i can swap it out with the passenger door lock. Right now its kinda of a pain to unlock the drivers door by going thru the passenger door.

I don't think so. I just put on my other door on my LUV and swapped everything between the doors. I swapped the locks and it looked like it could only go on one way. The mount for the rod faces towards the front of the truck and if you took the one from the other side, it would face towards the back. It might work but I don't think the rod would reach. That suxs man! I would say you could have the ones from the new doors I got but I don't have a key for them! :x
Actually, I don't remember but if the plate comes of the back, you could flip it around. If it is like the door handle, they are one side only also. They have holes on both sides fort the pull rod but it is riveted on, and it would take a little work to change it.

I don't remember the specifics but I had the exact same problem as you Blue Meanie and I was able to swap the locks. This was years ago, before it was even a V8, like 87.

Has anyone found a place to buy new door Locks. Mine work great with a screwdriver but I was hoping for something a little better than that

I did buy new door locks and installed them on my LUV. I can tell you for sure they are interchangeable. There wasn't any designation for left or right on the locks, and the lever on the inside removes with a snap ring so it's just a matter of flipping the lever over. I even have photos! The main concern I would have is that the lock cylinder fit tight in the door, and not turn. I hope I never have to change these locks again, as you can see from the indentation in the door it was a tight fit. I also took a photo today of the old lock cylinders.

I ordered the new ones from RockAuto.com. It was Part#DD1 D571A, but notice it was black powder-coated. I think they also have chrome.

thanks john,
looks like rock auto has the correct part number. I tried local auto parts and they call out the standard GM lock which is too short for the luv.
Long one is the stock Luv Lock

does anyone with a parts book have the original Part number on these locks. It seems that most of the auto parts stores around me have the wrong part called out.

FullaLuv
do you have a picture of the D571A you bought form rock Auto before you installed it? Do you remember if it was the same length as the one your replaced? All the ones that I am finding are to short and don't fit in the door hole.

Hi john,
I think this might be the reason why you had problems getting your replacement locks to fit. It seems that all the parts stores are calling out are to big for the hole in the door

Yes
RockAuto has them in black or chrome. Some other stuff like headlight switch.

thanks richard
Everyone claims to have them but it looks to me that all the auto parts stores are calling for the lock that is too short and does not fit in the hole as shown above. Even rock autos. Fulla luv dented his doors because of the locks from rock auto were too big for the hole in the door.
see the pictures above.

I am hoping one of the guys that have a parts book can look up the original part number for me and a can bake track form there.

I don't have my parts book with me so I can't look up the GM part number for you. I think though that even if I could it would not be much help as most parts shops won't have any cross reference. You might try St. Charles Isuzu http://www.isuzu.stcharlesauto.com I think or just google them. They are really good at finding out of stock parts for Isuzus so they might be able to handle this.

Oh and swapping the lock cylinders is very doable. You don't have to take the lever off with the snap ring just flip them over. In fact, swapping driver/passenger side locks is one of my recommendations when you first start working on a new to you LUV. The driver's lock is always more worn out, and if you catch it while both still work you can extend the life of both locks and still keep it working with just one key.

Has anyone ever had a locksmith rework these? I have a NOS ignition switch with original keys that I'd like to get a set of door locks keyed to match.

you have to remove window crank, there is a clip you pull out on the back side. Remove the chrome trim ring that is on the door latch handle. this just prys off.

then the door panel can be pryed off. they make a special tool but it can be done with screwdrivers and putty knife. there are about 10 press fit clips on the back of the panel around the edge.

So, does the part from Rock Auto work or not? No one really has said yet.

Being a little bigger diameter is no big deal, just file out the hole. The depth woule be a bigger deal IMO.

I just got here today, and hadn't known this discussion was going on. So I just want to say the "dents" that I put in the doors are acceptable. I considered it a tight fit. Like I said I wouldn't want to have to take them out!! I realize now I should have given some support to the inside of the door with perhaps a large deep well socket that was larger than the hole. You could also take a round file and evenly remove just a little of the sheet metal and keep trying the lock until it fits. Maybe I could try to pop it back out later, but it doesn't hardly look that bad to me. The shorter length lock cylinder is not a critical factor, as the rod will still reach the lock cylinder. I would recommend getting them from RockAuto if you want new ones, and when you go to a wrecking yard and buy it used it's just like a box of chocolates.

Fullaluv...so you got yours from Rock Auto right? And they were too short and fat, but still worked, correct? What kind of keys did they come with? Never bought a "new" doorlock cylinder before, so did the L & R come with their own keys, potentially giving you a 3-key truck? Please clarify.

Thanks

No, the L & R are one key. They send you 2 keys, so you have a spare. File the opening so it fits with a round file. You should remove evenly around about 0.030", but just keep trying your new cylinder until it feels right and then shove it in. Now go order it! :D

Here is the correct part numbers for the door locks on series 2-10. the locks that most of the autoparts stores are calling out are not a direct replacement. they require you to file the door hole. Here is the correct part numbers if you can find them.

Take the door locks out of the doors yourself and take them down to a good locksmith with your ignition key and they can re-pin them to match. Mine cost me around $30.00 for both doors and took the guy about a 1/2 hour.

yup that is a good solution if you have all the stock locks still in your truck. Unfortunately thieves with a screwdriver broke my door locks. and the stock ignition has been take out of all three of my Luv's.

Does anyone know were you can buy a stock Luv ignition switch also? I would like to get back to the stock luv key for everything.

or I can sneak up the hill and help myself to the Tazmans locks since they all match
