I have a stock 79 Luv 4WD. Just bought a Weber carb kit for it. From reading this forum, it appears most (all?) of you plug your EGR port in the intake manifold when intalling the Weber. I'm curious as to why you do this. Do you have to do it for some reason or are you just doing it to eliminate the EGR? Thanks for the help.

Well, when I installed my Weber I also installed a pacesetter header which isn't ported for EGR, so it was just the simplest route.

Thanks, haruspex.

Just curious, if you wouldn't have also done the header, could you have left the EGR operational? What did you use to seal the port in the intake manifold? Thanks again for the help.

EGR bung is M22x1.5 thread if you want search for a bolt to fit.
If you are not planning on re-using the EGR tube cut the tube (also makes it easier to get off the engine), slide the tube pieces out of the threaded connectors, tap the inside of the connectors for a 1/4" pipe plug, re-install the plugged threaded connectors into the bungs.
Use a similar method to plug the air rail fittings on the head (just a lot smaller plug), or if you can find some that fits directly they are M14x1.25.
O2 bung (some headers have them if you decide to go that way) is M18x1.5.

Leaving the egr operational would have been no problem. To seal off the intake I fabricated a block off plate and used a little rtv to make sure it was air-tight.

Thanks again for the help. The fitting for the egr was really stuck on there. By the time I got it off, it was no longer round so I couldn't tap the fitting for a plug. However, I was able to find a drain plug at O'Reilly's Auto Parts that was M22 x 1.5 that worked.
