Hey Guys,

I went to start my 80 Luv 4x4, and am getting very little fuel to the Carb. I have 2 filters. One in the stock area, and a secondary that's clear plastic so I can check on the fuel. I went ahead and replaced both filters, and there's a little more flow reaching the 2nd filter, but not enough to start the motor. A few times I did run the tank low during wheeling, so maybe it sucked up some debris on the tank. When I first bought my truck, and I had the gas tank boiled out and sealed, so rust is not an issue. So I can only think of 2 things:

One there's possible blockage in the line. I thought about taking an air compresser and blowing into the tank, just to see if it change anything.
Second idea is that the fuel pump is going out. It's running but does sounds a little different than normal.
How do mechanics test fuel pump pressure?

Stock fuel pump? If so there is also a filter inside the fuel pump. The end comes off, filter inside.

Check to make sure you don't have a kink in on of the rubber lines too! But if no that or filter..fuel pump!

I had the same problem. I replaced the fuel pump and it didn't fix it. Replaced all the lines, filters, carb, cleaned out the tank...still nothing. Replaced the pump AGAIN and this time splurged on the $150 pump instead of the $40 unit and...problem solved. Moral of the story, don't buy cheap fuel pumps. Here's what ended up working for me: http://napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogIt ... 0006372995

I will check the hoses and metal gas lines just in case. My Luv have the cheap fuel pump in it. It has lasted me 8 years, so not too bad for $40. I will probably go with a better quality one though.

I had the same problem and it was trash in the tank clogging the line. I disconnected the fuel line at the carburetor and blew air back to the tank to dislodge the junk. She started right up. Hope this is the problem...will save you a few dollars. I had just purchased a new fuel filter and while changing it, noticed I was not getting fuel to the filter.

Well I got a Facet fuel pump. Hooked it up, and barely any fuel came ot the carb. I then took a hose and bypassed the fuel filter, and no change. I then took air and blew threw just the line that goes under the cab.
I then took the hose off the fuel filter and blew into the tank. Hooked it back up, and still no change.
I may just have a bad fuel pump. I'm taking it back tomorrow to Napa and getting another one.

I think the pumps for the luv are rated 4-7psi, if you have a hitatchi carb and the overflow tank in the bed, you Could put a 7-9psi pump on there, then you know your multiple fuel filters aren't backing you up. The extra fuel will dump in to the overflow and you should be golden. It worked for me when I went crazy with the fuel filters at one time. ^_^

I decided to try one more thing before taking back the pump. From another project, I had extra fuel line left over, so I'm going to replace the line under the cab. Then if there is a blockage, there only place left for it will be a fuel filter or the pickup line in the gas tank.

One more thing I need to know. The Napa guy said their system says the Luv uses a 5/16 line for the fuel filter and the rubber hose. However My hose that been on there is a 3/8. If though the 3/8 is smaller, I'd think the fuel would still go threw. Any thoughts on this?

Got My Luv back on the road. Turns out I had 3/8 hose and was using 2 filters that have 5/16 connectors. So I ran all new 5/16 hose, 2 new filters (1 of the old ones got plugged after short time),
and the new Facet fuel pump. What a difference! I actually have more throttle response!
The extra money for this pump was worth it. 8)
