On my other topic "Dizzy installed wrong" I have had problems timing my 87 1.9L Pup and I came to find out that the harmonic balancer of a G200 and a G180 are different. When aligning my camshaft marks on the rocker arm brackets, the notch on both balancers are opposite and the G180 is on 0 TDC.

1987 Isuzu Pup 1.9L G200 balancer is 5.75 overall diameter
1980 Chevy Luv 1.8L G180 balancer is 5.5" overall diameter.

Apparently the engine builder used a G180 balancer to time a G200. I thought parts from a G180 were interchangeable and one would assume that the balancer would be the same.

Can somebody give input on this.

Thanks, Marcos

TO check your balancer zero it out. You need a piston stop. It can be made off an old spark plug or buy one for around $9 from Summit. Run the motor by hand to a positive piston stop using a wrench and the balancer bolt. Mark your balancer. Run the engine backwards and hit the stop again. Mark your balancer. Divided the to marks in half and that is you true TDC mark. Check your your new marks against your OG mark. Balancer and timing cover usually go hand in hand

Here is the one I made with a spark-plug, nut and bolt, and some duck-tape-

Thanks for the info ethelkilledfred. One thing that I am trying to find out if its true, is that if the balancer from a Chevy Luv 1.8L is actually different than a balancer for a Isuzu Pup 1.9L. Obviously, from the picture I posted, the balancers are different, but I am just wanting to have someone clarify this since I thought all accessories were interchangeable from a G180 to a G200.

Harmonic Balancer from a 1.8L g180 and a 1.9L g200 are not different as I previously thought. Apparently, the pulley that is on the block, was indeed installed backwards, thus giving me all sorts of problems and confusion. The smallest of mistakes, are the hardest ones to figure out.
