OK maybe I'm off base here but is the front track wider than the rear on a stock '78?
I bought a set of wheels that APPEARED to be the same offset for all 4, but the fronts stick out slightly and the rears tuck slightly? So I'm not sure but it appears that the front is slightly wider maybe an inch max. Anybody know for sure?

Crap! Found the answer, and yes the front is wider by 1.25"
And that's why my fronts stick out more. :?

On the 2nd gen (and P'up) trucks, the front is slightly wider than the rear.

You didn't ask about a '75, you asked about a '78, it's hard to say if those numbers even apply to a '78. '78 FSM says front "tread" is 54", & the rear axle housing measures 54" WMS to WMS. If "tread" is measured somewhere different than WMS to WMS then front & rear are different. If "tread" is measured from the center of the tire/rim & the rim is zero-offset that is also WMS.
Part of the reason the fronts "looks" wider is that the fenders narrow towards the bumper & at the same time slope in towards the hood a bit at the top while the bed at the rear is near vertical.
