Hi,

I have a 79 that I have done lots of work to mechanically. Nothing done cosmetically. It has new brakes, clutch, wheel bearings, MSD and all ignition components, weber, header, fuel pump, starter, so I've got some investment in it so far. I like it and use it as a daily driver because my 4x4 gets about 12 mpg and is too nice to carry my muddy dog to the park and back. The motor does leak oil and has very little power, it barely goes 60mph. I think there is an exhaust leak on the header somewhere. It burns oil. All the spark plugs come out ashy.

Issue:

It sounds like it has a dead hole and when I pull the #2 spark plug wire the sound does not change and I see that it has spark. When I pull the others it slows down considerably. I just changed all the plugs today. I think it burned a valve.

Should I:

Get a new long block for $1545 and have my buddy install it? Take it to a mechanic and have them do the whole job? Get a different motor, something other than a 1.8? Wait for another truck on craigslist?

Or look for an 86/87 Isuzu Trooper with the 2.3L and install it. That is what I'd like to do with mine.
