My 80 4x4 4speed trans is starting to howl and getting louder has anyone rebuilt their trans and where did you get the kit. I've got two spairs laying around but don't know the condition of each and don't want to go through all the changing with a unknown.

Have you tried changing or checking your gear case oil?

Rebuilding is too expensive, parts too hard to find.

I had my old 80 2wd trans. rebuilt at a general no name shop. He put in new seals, bearings, and synchros. Just check around and see what they tell you.

Also, this place was shown to me. I have not used them yet, but through e mails with them, I like them. They are going to rebuild my steering box some day.... when I get around to it. IDK if they do transmissions, but it's worth a shot. http://www.rebuildingfactory.com/

That place is a few miles from my house. It use to be called Express Part Exchange. Run far and fast from them, their comback rate from my old workplace was 60%, we quit using them. They did not do transmission work.

Yea many years ago I broke a reverse gear tooth in my trans and could not find one anywhere so I found one in a salvage yard and that's the one I'm starting to have trouble with. I got a friend that rebuilds trans and he said he should be able to find what I need.
