so i bought a 76 luv g180 at the end of last week in non running condition i know i have good compression..

after replacing a completely mangled water pump, and fuel pump, got the truck to start and idle fairly well, replacing some burnt out bulbs, replaced all 4 fuses for the head lights... dropping the tank to find quite a few dry rotted and or plugged hoses/a lot of rust...

i am having some issues tuning the motor...

ok so i hit the ignition switch it fires up and takes an idle very well... no chugging or hesitation in a warm shop after 4 hours of sitting or out side in the cold all night... the problem i am having it rather strange.. so i get the carb tuned so there is less then no difference between going from idle to full rpm... throw it in gear and take off down the road... 3 mile drive to gas station to get a soda start the drive back 2nd gear and the truck chokes out (by this i mean the truck starts to misfire and sputter then died) hit the ignition switch it fires right back up press the gas and it chokes out again... after going through this 3-4 more times it go back to normal and continue the drive home....

any clue where i might start looking would this be fuel related or spark???

as well the other issue i am having is a lack of blower operation.... im not an electrical engineer
but i can use a voltmeter where do i start?

original carb??
mine was having a similar problem when i had the stock carb on it. would start and do ok for a while. then when i got own the road it would sputter and lose power.

my distributor gave me a an issue when the points finally got fried and were not able to carry a strong current to keep a good spark which would be a lot cheaper to "test" fix.

if you have the original carb still i would consider pulling it off and running some carb cleaner and some compressed air thru it to make sure not just a clogged jet from the crud in the fuel lines. if you have had gunk in the lines i would put a fuel filter in the stock spot and one b4 the carb.. i have a clear motorcycle fuel filter before my carb just in case.

i would assume that its the original carb.. i didnt see any weber markings on the front of it anywhere

i have to be to work by 8am so i think im going to race the hell out of the motor and see if that helps clean out the carb any.... cause right now a redline kit and or an offenhauser kit are out of budget... at least for a few months...

fuel pump came with an inlet filter and running a plastic see through filter just past the pump its self... idk if i can get away with a filter at the tank or not with the pump i got??? pump rating 10gph @ 2.5-4psi should be enough fuel i would think? yep it took me just over an hour to drain a full tank of gas last night haha... :(

will pull the carb off tonight and blow it out with some air and see if that helps any...

other then the air pump and its respective lines what else should i be removing to bypass the emissions controls?

and beings that these were sold prior to 1980 should i be running higer octane fuel? i mean these were sold right at the end of the use of leaded fuels? not like i would run 110ll aircraft fuel on the road or anything

wait you said stock location??? for a fuel filter??? where might that be?

cause the fuel pump that was installed in the truck when i bought it was installed on the fender... in the location where the (79 4wd) coil would be installed and the coil is mounted forward between it and the battery...

not sure of the stock location. i have one that is right before my fuel pump and one right before my carb. i believe the one by the fuel pump is the original one for my truck
but i have a 4x4 so it may be different because my lines go directly from under the cab to the carb with no diversion to a fuel pump location on the fender.. the one by my carb was added by me to be sure i didnt get gunk in my weber

The stock fuel pump is located on the cross member under the truck, behind the cab. Fuel filter was before the pump as well as a second filter inside the pump itself. Fuel line then runs straight to the carb. Someone has added/replaced one in your engine compartment.
