1980 stock chevy luv. GEN light flickers on/off, sometimes on until engine fails. Goes off at high RPM's sometimes
and sometimes not. Alt. passed 3 test's & a bench test. So now on to the voltage regulator. Oh, the voltage from the battery was 12.2 key off. 13.5 when idling with gen light off, 15vdc when high idling/reving. WTF? So there is black burnt insulation board right under the resistor that goes paralell to highth, not length of V.R. Housing. I get 0.6 ohms from it & the other resistor gives me 6.9 ohms.

Sounds like connection problems somewhere. Maybe the old fuse box bugaboo. Check all wire connections from the alternator to the VR. The discolored resistors under the regulator is normal as these get quite hot in their normal job of regulating the voltage. Failing all this I would try replacing the regulator if you haven't already.

Yeah, the fuse box. Maybe I never had my regulator off to see the resistors. The contacts in the fuse box are riveted together. Before long corrosion leads to flaky connections. I tool the metal pieces out and soldered them together.

Ditto on the fuse box fix. Its free and very often a problem. Do a search.

Also, when this all first started, I came back to it parked and it started working okay for another day. Then when looking for the issue, I found the dist. condensor spade connector bent down, thus touching the metal dist. housing. Would this cause a problem somewhere?
