Sorry if this is redundant, tried searching and posting this in the noob section first. Anyway, I did the distributor swap with a reman from rockauto and now no spark. I scribed the old dizzy and noted the rotor placement, swapped the new one into the same position, wired BR to coil -, grounded the black to the fender under the coil mount, eliminated the ballast resistor. The only odd things were a condenser or noise suppressor wired into the blue on the old dizzy and the BY and BR were spliced and wired to the ballast resistor together(I moved them both over to the coil+). I guess at this point I'm wondering if I got the distributor off and need reset it. Problem is, the shop manual doesn't really go into that and I suck at ignition troubleshooting. Any help on what my next move might be would be appreciated bethinks, y'all.

Are you getting spark from the coil? You can check this by~ disconnect the coil wire from the distributor cap and hold it near part of the frame/body, leaving a small gap. Have a friend turn the key, look for spark between wire and truck.**!!Note: You may get shocked!!**. If your getting spark from the coil to the distributor cap, reinstall the coil wire to cap. Next, remove #1 spark plug from cylinder head, then put the plug wire back on the plug holding the side/threads against the frame/body to ack as ground. Again, have a friend turn the key, look for a spark. If you don't have a spark at the plug, your probably off a tooth.

This a simple way to check for spark, atleast I have seen it checked this way and you can always swap places with your friend, again you may get shocked, it shouldn't kill you, but it will tingle. If you are getting spark at the plug, it could be a fuel delivery issue or maybe even a compression issue.

Nope, no spark. I guess I need to figure out how tonreorient the dizzy. Set #1 at TDC and install with rotor pointing to #1 on the cap? Or maybe set #1 at 6 BTDC and do the same?

Okay, since I didn't get much help here, I'll post this up for the next guy. If you get a distributor from a 1983-87 Pup, wire the red black to coil+ and the black to coil-. If it doesn't work, swap wire 1 and 4 and 2 and 3. I'm pretty sure the cap for the Pup has the opposite firing order from the OEM one for the Luv(my two year old disappeared the old cap, so I had the pleasure of figuring it out the hard way). I had some trouble with the swap, but it was worth it, smoothest it's ever idled and with the new Accel coil, wires and plugs(the plug gap for the new distributor is .44) there was an immediately noticeable increase in power/acceleration.
