Guys,
I know there is a lot of great info on the forum about rebuilding an engine, what upgrades to do, etc. My problem A) this will be my first rebuild B) I don't know where on the forum to find this wealth of info. Can someone please point me in the right direction before I start this, and any advice will be greatly appreciated. The goal is to remain mostly stock with minor upgrades for performance. Thank you all in advance.

Get a factory manual fron ebay. I would consider a delta cam, offy intake with a weber cam, a header and a electronic distrubiter. I think that combo is not over doing it, it will be reliable and get good mpg.

When you rebuild the engine make sure to have everything checked for cracks.Make sure to spend the money to get the connecting rods re sized, crank at least polished if not turned, block plateau honed(possibly decked) and make sure to get the block thoroughly cleaned by a machine shop. When you go to assemble the motor make sure everything is immaculately clean! I have a degree in automotive machine...I can not tell you how many times I have seen people build an engine and have had oil passages or coolant passages plugged because they did not make sure stuff was clean. Always cove parts up when not working on the engine.
Do yourself a favor and by a decent engine stand. I would also purchase a torque wrench from Sears.Buy a clicker type and follow all torque specs according to manual and gasket manufacturer.
Make sure you install rings the right way! If you don't you will have a major oil problem!
Also when you get the head done see if they can use Vitron seals for the valve stem seals...they seal better and will last longer than the old umbrella seals.
Make sure that you cover connecting rod bolts when assembling the engine..you don't want to scratch the crank and spin a bearing or you with shoot yourself!LOL
Take your time and measure and remeasure everything! Write down what you have done and what you have had the machinist done, keep all receipts and boxes for all parts until you are completely done..in case their is a problem.
Don't be afraid to ask questions, buy tools or manuals..they can be lifesavers!
Good Luck!

Also find a machine shop with a good reputation that stands behind their work too!
