when we tested the ignition coil with the meter (1980 chevy luv 4x4 )
primary was at 1.8 (book says readings should be 1.5)
secondary was 9.17 (book says readings should be 11.5)

we are thinking the ignition coil is not creating a strong enough spark to fire up cylinder 3&4.
we can pull wire 3 from the cylinder , there's no drop in rpm and the same no drop of rpms wire 4, however we have a drop on rpms for wires 1 &2
we read a post of someone whose engine had the same symptoms and the coil was bad, they replaced it and all 4 cylinders got enough spark- problem gone. we are tying to see if my fluctuation
is the culprit.are my readings OK? or is my coil faulty?
we are planning on compression testing after the first ( however a finger in the hole of the spark plug wants to blow your finger out of it )
we believe we have the firing order correct

i have no steam , smoke or drips from tail pipe so i am ruling out blown head gasket.
my idle should be 950 but we are bouncing everywhere

The coil readings are not too bad. If a coil is bad it wont miss fire the same 2 cylinders. When you do the compression pull all the plugs, it is possiable the head gasket is blown between the cylinders, if it is it wont blow steam.

Agree with above. Fireing order is 1-3-4-2, and distributor turns counterclockwise.

It also depends if there is a dead short across either of the windings in the coil.If there is a short it can be intermittent and only cause a problem part of the time.Spend the what twelve bucks to replace the coil and see if it makes a difference or borrow one from somebody and try it.
