A non-mechanically inclinded friend has a '80 LUV with what appears to be a blown head gasket. I haven't actually seen the block but apparently it's eroded the block between the 2 blown cylinders and has a 1/16 to 1/8 in. depression. His mechanic tells him the block has to be milled to get rid of the depression and that in turn will require new pistons, etc etc. He's looked around for a used engine but apparently they are hard to find.
Thought the collective wisdom of this group might suggest if there are any other options on repairing the block. He lives in the Phoenix AZ area and I think a local salvage yard was doing the search for an engine. Any suggestion of other sources.
thanks

im not sure you could mill the block down enough w/ a depression that big. the 1.8 is already a zero clearance engine. meaning if it gets too far outta time it will bend the valves and/or seize the engine......my advise is keep hunting for a block. should'nt be impossible to find a rebuildable one.

In reading some of the others posts looks like a blown head gasket is a common failure on this engine. Is is common to also erode out between the cylinders to?
