Alright im looking to put some swampers on my luv. My delema is that i can get 28x8.50R15s or 27x9.50R15s. My truck is lifted 1.5" in the front and i have about a 1" wide strip cut out of the back of my front fenders. So which tire will i be able to clear, im hoping for the 28s.

I have 2 inches of body lift and about 2 inch suspension lift with around the same fender cutout. I'm running 235/75R15 tires now with minmal rubbing and that tire size translates to about 28x9 It depends a lot on the width of wheel you use (I'm on 8") and what backspacing the wheels are. With these wheels which I believe are 0 backspace I rub a little bit on the inner fenderwells when turning and hitting a bump, like what you'd see going into a parking lot. I have not been off road with this set of tires on, so I don't know how the setup would handle ruts and real bouncing. I used to run Wildcat EXTs that were 215/75R15s on 8 inch rims (bit wide for the tire) and -1" offset when I used to hit the trails more, and they never rubbed unless I really stuffed the tire up in the fenderwell. Then, they only hit the back outer edge of the front fender and only when turning. Never had them hit the inner fender.

There are so many variables though, that it is hard to judge what will fit on your rig and what won't based on what others have done. You might try asking around at local tire shops to see what they think looking at the truck. I've met a lot of idiots in tire shops, but I've also run into some people who really know their stuff and could fit you with precisely the best thing for your setup. Your sig says you have 27.5s on there now, so it seems to me that unless they are really narrow or something strange, 28s should fit if you are not having trouble with what you've got.

Basically what I'm doing, is to have two sets. I still have the Wildcat EXTs, but run some mild all terrain Coopers most of the time. The road noise is night and day different, and the slightly taller tire gets a bit better highway mileage. The off road tires are a bit shorter, but I don't have to worry about cutting one open on the fender if I happen to stuff it up there crossing ruts or something.

I run 215/75/15 MT on my 1982 LUV and there's no rubbing. On my 1987 truck it's 235/75/15 MT with no rubbing either and thats without any lift kit's.

Unless you get special rims , your going to rub your frame , and your turning radius well suck! I have 33x12.50 tsl thornburgs on my 80 luv....but ya have to cut out your fenders a bit to do that. I also lifted mine max...3 in. 'o' Yea ...even if you trimed your rear fenders..it is still possable that ya might rub the wheel well on your bed without lifting it a little more. Shorter tires are not all that bad...as long as it looks ok. These trucks can go about anywhere even with smaller tires. I have 14'' tires on my 79 with no lift and can go anywhere my 80 can go!

I know 3'' dose'nt seem like alot , but when i lifted mine 3'' i was really shocked. It really made a difference in the wheel well areas. I think you should be able to get 30x9.50R15s to work without Haveing to do to much cutting. Not the fenders , but the shifter areas well have to be trimed along with the steering shaft area at the firewall. You well also have to raise your radiator . I bought my lift kit for about 119.00 new at off road proformance. If i would of had them install it ..they wanted 750.00. I did it myself in one weekend with no special tools and no problems. Good luck!

i don't know where u guys are getting ur body lift kits but i found a 2 in for 60 and a 3 in for 70 i think the address is http://shop.offroadwarehouse.com/index.php?cat=86. but i did a leaf over in the rear and a torsion in the front and i run 30x9.5 on eagle alloys 15x8. i cant remember the backspacine but the rims stick out past the fender about an inche. i beleive there series 56. i don't remember at the moment. but i think u should do what i am starting and do a solid axle swap if ur serious about wheeling. matt

My rims are 3 inches on the inside , and 7 inches on the outside. Rims...10x15...tires 33x12.50 TSL interco thornbirds. They do rub a bit, but you really have to be turning very hard for them to hit the frame. My tires stick out a bit farther than an inch. O yea by the way, i had to lower the radiator insted of raising it , like i said in my last post! As far as the lift kits go, i did a little research before i bought. The one im using on my truck has all metal spacers , and not plastic , or neopreeme. But if ya really wanted to do it cheep...just use 2x4s!!

Thanks...but it is still in the redesigning stage.I really would like to make some rim spacers, and put them on the front. Maybe 3/4 in. It would keep me from hitting my frame at all.Does anyone know where to find something like that?If not im going to fab. myself. I well make a patern if anyone is interested.

thats perty cool. I whant my truck to kinda look yours john but im thinking of going whith the 29.5x8.50R15 TSL radials. Then in goes a powertrax locker and i have a warn 9.5ti on the way. And i do wheel this little thing alot (mostly exploring washed ouit logging roads and mining trails). I would like to do a SAS but i dont have the cash right now. And besides the thing is known as the "indestructable isuzu" in my 4x4 club  8)

I just installed my new snorkel...i made it out of 2'' conduit pipe , and ran it up through the front of the bed....The only side pics i have at this time are the old pics in the project gallery....i well get some new ones going soon. I fabricated the front bars from a full size truck...had to cut 6'' off and the bottom.. but i had to design it so that my tow bar would work on it. I also welded a really strong rear bumper with 6 steel bars underneith and extended the rear frame ...thats so i could weld a 8000lb winch on it. It seems like this is takeing me forever to get this truck done ....but all is going well...thanks for the nice coments.I wish we had some old loging trails around here ...it seems that all we have are muddy wash out basins or creek bottoms....but its still alot of fun....My thinking is that why put a winch on the front....on most trails its better to go back and try again rather than try and go farther and have no way back...plus i like the weight on the back not the front when it comes to deep mud!!
