what is normal smoking for a 2.2 diesel 81 wondering if mine is smoking too much. what engine could i put in it if needed. does isuzu or chevy make diesel engines that would be compatible

How much is yours smoking and what color is the smoke? The next smallest engine above a 2.2 diesel, for Isuzu or Chevy, would be a 3.9 turbo-diesel 4 cyclinder they put in NPRs. Even that motor is too big to put in a LUV I think. If I wanted to put a new diesel engine in a LUV, I would look for the 2.3 Mitsubishi turbo diesel engine they had in their trucks from 1983 to 1986. That motor busts out about 80-90 HP, compared to the Isuzu, which is 60 HP. The only problem is finding that Mitsubishi diesel engine, because it has become so rare.
