How much weight can a gas LUV pull and still be able to run ATLEAST 60mph?

Some LUVs can't go 60 without a trailer.

I'd say about 500 pounds, like a cement mixer or something. I don't recommend towing anything bigger than that with a LUV, it doesn't have the brakes for it.

Hmmm that's weird my LUV would run 85 before I stripped it down and it was completely stock, all the way down to the carb. I had an Lt1 with 2 transmissions, which altogether weigh almost 1000 pounds, in the back of mine and pulled it about 50 miles at 65mph and had no stopping issues or pulling issues. I was just wondering how much they could pull because I'm going to be moving to Washington soon and I want to take 2 vehicles, including my LUV, with me, but if it won't pull THAT much then I can't take it and that would really suck.

I checked my owners manual for my 77. I was surprised it says up to 2000 pounds. Still I am afraid the brakes are marginal for anything like that. I have occasionally hauled more than the 1200 load limit, but only short distances and taken it easy, going around rail crossings.

Well that sucks because the total weight I would be pulling would be about 3k lbs oh well I guess I may still have to sell it then

Although I can get my hands on a dolly that has its own brakes!!!!!! I don't even have to have a control in the LUV it has its own weird setup.

One of my previous LUVs had no problem towing, just problems stopping. I flat towed a Camaro with no motor using a tow bar. I had a lot of trouble stopping, Camaro kept pushing the back and almost spun me around come off the frwy. I would not do it again.

That's why I plan on using a dolly that has its own brakes. And Camaros ARE HEAVY even with no engine. So long as I can find a decent dolly with brakes I should be alright. I mean c'mon if my littel Kia Sephia will pull a 6000lb 1966 Chevy C10 I think the LUV could pull a 2500 lb Kia with about 500lbs of luggage

my 1986 trooper has the same 4WD axils, springs, and MSG trans as a 4WD luv.
just with a 5th O\D gear and 4.55 gears, not a 4sp with 4.11s

i pulled a 5,500lb trailer to the other side of the country.
and could do 60 barly
my engine is the 80hp diesel with 125 in torque, drove it as a 4sp the hole way

i will note i had a class 3 hitch on the trop with load transfer bars, the wheels of the trailer where VERY far back (helped big time with major side winds) and it was double axil with good brakes on bolth.

if your willing to take back roads or drive at night, and keep tons of clear road in front of you these little beast can move about as much as they weigh

((with the right equipment and drive style)) i wouldn't think twice about moving a 3,000 load.
you must under stand your pushing the limits of the auto and you must drive it conservatively.

Well maybe I will be able to take it then I don't have quite as much hp or torque as you but my load will also be almost half the weight. And yes I had planned on putting a regular hitch on it. Noway was I going to pull anything with the puny little bumper they have lol. Now I just have to find a dolly with brakes on it. Shouldn't be too hard. I just wish I could get ahold of a weber for about $100 shipped before I took off but that's too cheap for anybody to want to come off of one. I just wish I had the diesel in it
