Ok so i have a 79 luv That I cannot get into gear.. I was heading for lunch today when I came to a stop light.. I hit the clutch petal and nothing happened it was the same feeling as if it worked but the clutch did not engage.. now that it is at home I can not get it into any gear running I can start it in gear and drive but that's it.. I never smelt the clutch burning or anything so I'm not really sure what it is had a buddy say throw out bearing because I would smell the clutch burning if it was going out or it was out.. Needless to say I never had a problem til today.. I'm going to take the engine out in the morning to see what the dam deal is I sold three luv's already in my life time being 22 I'm not selling another one.. To get my luv I got to die first bud.. Please help me heal my luv..

Check the sheet metal around where the clutch cable enters the cab, then check the clutch pedal assy. for metal fatigue.

It does have a license plate so technically it is a street truck, that sets off car alarms and makes kids cry. lol

The fork that goes into the bellhousing moves fine I tightened it up just to make sure that was the problem.. I know it's internal I just hope it's the release bearing and not the clutch.. That's really what I'm looking for someone to tell me.. Before I go buy anything.. I also don't know how hard it will be to get to it.. I have made up my mind that just taking the motor out would be the easiest.. I really need to pull it any way to clean the lower end up.. Thanks for helping buddy..

also, you can adjust your cable so there is more separation between the disc and the flywheel.

like oz said, check the places where the parts are held into place.
The toebox is notorious for tweaking and getting bent out of shape.

if you do have to pull the engine anyway, do it. just make sure you have an alignment tool available.

and if you do need a new clutch, i got mine from work. ( o'reilly's) and although i got it with my work discount, it was still less than 100 bucks on normal retail.

this is the part number if you need it.

Sachs Clutch set KF637-01 It carries a lifetime warranty on it and should include wear as well.

So I pulled the engine only took like 2 and a half hours.. I got to the clutch only to find one of the springs had broke out and was in between the clutch plate and the outer plate with the ribs or metal flanges.. The release bearing looked fine so idk if that little spring could had caused all that..
