I can't seem to fix this oil leak on my 78. I installed a new oil pan gasket, used the right stuff, and it still leaks. I took it off this morning, carefully cleaned and added more goo, reinstalled, and it still leaks. It is leaking between the gasket and the pan, at the front, at the lowest point, below the crank pulley. Really odd. I made sure I had a really good seal. It leaks when it's running, and revved up. Like it's pushing the oil out. ??
When the weather gets better, I will get the pan off my spare eng. and put a new gasket on it, and try that out. I'm sure that's where it is leaking from. It's not the main seal, or between the gasket and eng. It is defiantly between the gasket and the pan.
Any other ideas?

Are you sure the leak is not from the pully. Sounds like it needs a speedy sleave.

It's dry above the gasket. It would make sense that it would leak there under pressure/rpm, but it sure looks to be the pan/gasket.

I expect you've checked the pan and the bottom of the block to make sure there's no cuts or cracks.

Or a warped pan?

You could try to put a bit of goop just at the front, hold the pan up, then bring it back down and see if the goop has contacted the block all the way across.

I'll try that with the other pan I'm going to try when the rain & holidays are over. Thanks.

rondog, I think Garlock makes a "multi swell" gasket material that swells up like 50% when it contacts oil and is made for light flange applications. They use it a lot here at work. You would have to cut out your own gasket, but it may be a solution. Mace

CHeck the pvc system as well, if it builds crankcase pressure, it will push it out somewhere...

I second this one. Took the words right out of my mouth.

I pulled off the oil pan vent hose, and a little air is coming out, not much, and with it off, it still leaks. I will check more out soon.

With the crankcase vent off and the engine running there should be no air coming out, there should be a slight vacuum there instead. Crankcase fumes should be drawn in through the small hose on the valve cover to the base of the carb.
There is a small orfice there that may be plugged up.
