whats the difference in a '80 and a '82 stock LUV motor? '80 is G180 and '82 is G200, right? Also, are the engine rebuild kits the same?

I think you may be correct, the 80 has the same engine as the 79, which I have and it's a g180

I don't know for sure but I think a few things like the timing chain tensioner on a G 200 is better than the G 180.

I would guess a G 200 has a bigger bore and mabe a differnt stroke crank.

G200 didn't appear until 1984 even in Isuzus as far as I can remember. Look at the block on the exhaust side, should be a fairly easy to find g180 or G200 cast into the block kind of behind the exhaust manifold. Also the head will often times say whether it is G200, but won't say its a g180. If the motor you have truly came in an 82 truck, it should be a G180.

I have run across one motor that had no marking on the block or the head, it is in my 1980 4x4. My guess is that it came out of an early s-10 and GM had Isuzu grind the G200 and all Isuzu logos off of it. I have not had it apart to tell for sure, but it appears to be a G200 block from all indications. So if you can't find the markings it just might be a G200.

G180: 3.31x3.23
G200: 3.42x3.23
G200 has a slighly larger bore so the head gaskets may be different to match the bore, see if there are different part numbers.
Also, why are you putting a G200 head onto a G180 block? This will lower the compression ratio below the stock 8.5:1, G180 head on a G200 block raises compression above stock.

The G200 was the base engine in S10/S15 pickups from '82-85 but not in the '82 LUV.

the G200 head says G200 on it.
the G180 head has the isuzu symbol on it.
the lower end of the G180 and G200 are the same. bore is the difference. G200 is 1.9L

the G200 head on a G180 block will lower your compression but has bigger valves (desirable for a boosted application to de-compress the engine and avoid over boost while allowing more free flow. but will not run as well as a G180 w/180 head or a G200 block with a G180 head if naturally-aspirated.
some of the aussies who tune out the G series will use the G161 1.6L head on the G180 or G200 blocks with G200 valves ground in for higher flow and compression and a reground cam in N/A applications.

the kits should be the similar the G180 head gasket will likely have a bit more meat between the cylinders.

does anyone in the area between salem, OR. to portland OR, vancouver WA, to seattle
have a spare G200 head? and/or a G180 crank. i have 2 G180 blocks and heads pretty much 2 G180's minus a valve cover and a crank. one set in use one not.

i would like to setup my spare engine as a G180 block with G200 head with some other components.
i have an idea for a powerhouse G180 and some things i have never seen done under a hood of a luv. in terms of cooling, turbo cooling, engine component combos. just need to gather the resources.
first step i need to find a G200 head. if anyone made the swap to 200 block 180 head? or is planning to. let me know
