After buying a used gas tank for our 1979 LUV.
Cleaning it up and refitting it into the truck, only to have it start leaking around the seam.
There goes $120.00 and the freight from Minnesota.
I'm going to make a new tank from aluminum using the same dimensions and using the original sender unit.
I will post photos soon.
If anyone is interested in buying one, I will build some to order.

I'll let you know how much it will cost when we finish it.
Take a photo of the top of your old tank and post it here so I can work out how many fittings to install in the top of the tank.
My tank has an outlet, breather, carburetor return and two condensate/fume lines.
I'll try to work out the shipping as well.

We have a slight problem with this idea. I was talking to a buddy of mine at the local welding shop and he told me, I can make my own tank, but I can't sell them to anyone, as the design needs to be DOT certified to be a safe working gas tank.
However there is a loophole, I can sell them as a diesel tank and whatever fuel you put in it is up to you.
Apparently diesel tanks don't have to be certified, go figure.

When I first bought my Luv, it had sat for a year. I ended up taking it to a raditaor shop (some do this) and they boiled out the tank and sold me some sealer that keeps the tank from corroding.
Not sure how much it costs now, as I did it back in 1998.

I had a gas tank with several pinholes. I used the gas tank sealer kit from Eastwood, ( www.eastwood.com/ew-gas-tank-sealer-kits-for-cars.html ), It has stood the test of time for years. Price for the kit was $49 but easy to use.
