Hey all, just completed my electric fan install with the following thermostatic controller:
http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp ... P2061A____I picked up a fan from the parts yard several months ago from some Honda, not sure what it's from because I found it in the truck of a vehicle I randomly checked on the way out, lol. I mounted the controlled on the sheet metal box bolted beside the wiper reservoir by drilling a pair of holes it it and using the mounting hardware that came with it. I tapped into the same ignition lead as my Weber's electric choke and ran direct leads for the ground and 12v to the battery.
The fan was too thick to work as a puller, even with the engine fan and pulleys removed. Mounted it behind the grill and reversed the polarity and it worked like a charm. Decluttered the engine bay a bit and keeps it really cool. Drove home from my buddy's house where I installed it and the fan didn't even have to kick on, gauge never hit above 1/3. Sat in my parking spot at my apartment for a few minutes to let the truck idle and it kicked on at the half-way mark for about 30 seconds, the gauge dropped like a rock and the fan cut off again.
It
may have freed up 1-3 hp but just getting rid of the fan noise in the engine bay was enough to warrant the upgrade.
