I've been having some issues with my 77 luv. Took out the alt. and regulator, but that was two weeks ago, and just got the new parts yesterday. When I replaced the alternator, I was a little perplexed on the wiring. I'll let everyone here know that I'm not very good with my mechanics, so please don't make fun of me. I couldn't remember where everything went back when I got the new alternator. So, I placed the obvious white plug in the only place that it could fit, but the two other wires (I think battery, and ground) were a little tricky. I put both of them on the single bolt on the back of the alt upon a friends suggestion. Weird things have been happening since. The defrost/heat/vent/ac fan wouldn't stop blowing air even after the engine was turned off. This of course is going to drain my battery, so I took the fuse out for now. Also, the charge light on the instr. panel lights up when I turn the engine off.

I'm guessing the ground wire shouldn't be on the bolt/post on the back of the alt along with the battery wire, and is causing the strangeness. The problem is, I can't see any logical place where it should go. There is a place where a threaded bolt COULD fit in the back of the rebuilt alt, but isn't present. Is that where the ground wire should go?

Yeah, the little tapped hole just above the white plug and towards the battery post from it is where the ground wire goes. Maybe about a regular 4mm bolt.

Thanks. I'll give that a try tomorrow. Hope for the best.

Did you get the wiring straight yet?
