stock carb is fraking out
it fills th float with gas then when i g to start it the engine empties the bowl amost instantly and it floods the engine i dont know whats going on with it?? i know its the DCH340 carb. i also have a DCP340 sitting in the garage with the inlets for the fuel lines facing the wrong direction and a second vacuum actuator that T's with the other one so im trying to adapt it to work with my fuel lines since the inlets arent interchangable.

but what i need to know is why would the car totally flood the engine out immediately.

ok i did a test on my contacts that the carb hooks up to the engine through. and they are dead. is that causing my problem by a valve open or the chock or something???
i think im going to try the other carb but if its the wiring causing the problem wha do i need to do to fix it?carb is sucking

I am slow to answer because I am not familiar with DCH340. No one else is trying to help either. On the standard stock carb, the big trouble maker is the float. It can stick in both the up and down position creating problems. I would check it and make sure it doesn't rub on anything and stick.

mikuni dch340 is the model of carb used on the series 8-12 luv and i believe many of the earlier models as well.
i swapped over to my spare carb the DCP340 from an earlier model (all of this info is coming from my chiltons manual with the schematics of the 4 carbs that were used on the luv DRJ340, DCP340 and 2 different models of DCH340 not sure of the specific differences other than the DCP240 i switched to had the fuel line pickups on the valve cover side and had a T in the vacuum hose using 2 actuators for vacuum brake.

but long story short i switched to my spare carb, tuned it and have had no further problems.
i do need to find a set of the nuts that hold on the valve cover, if anyone has a set they would be willing to sell or know where i can get some i would appreciate it

Go get a valve cover gasket set from any auto parts store. It should come with a new gasket, those nuts you are looking for, and the 2 rubber plugs that go at the top front and top rear of the head.
