Me too! Is there anywhere you can get aftermarket gears? Will the gears from some other rear end fit?

This has been talked about before and it always come to the same conclusion. NO!...There aren't any companies that offer different gearsets for the Luv. There has been some dealings that the axle assys are actually made by Mitsubishi but know one has confirmed this. The only real option is to fit a new axle assy that has more options on gear sets. It's an expensive solution to getting new ratios.

There are some options for the Isuzu 10 bolt rear axle used in the LUV from what I'm picking up about newer Isuzu stuff, but nothing at all for the 8 bolt front. If you can't change both on a 4x4, then there really isn't much point is there? I think there is a locker and a limited slip for the rear, and you could go to a 5 Spd trans from a newer Isuzu to get some highway mileage if that is part of your aim. If you are ambitious and want to try something I've never heard of anyone doing, you could figure out how to swap a 10 bolt front axle from a newer Isuzu... Alternatively, swap a solid front axle and match the rear gears to it.

According to the FAQ at Indy4x Isuzu made 4.10, 4.30, 4.56, and 4.71 gears and Tera Mfg makes 5.38s for the 10 bolt. If you try to find any of this stuff, keep in mind that the front in a lot of troopers is the 10 bolt found in the rear of LUVs. I don't know how much difference it makes taking the carrier from a front diff rather than a rear though. I'm inclined to think it won't much matter, but I've not done a lot of axle work, just a lot of research.

if you find an early 80s trooper2 whith a 5speed the axles should be stuffed whith 4.77s. But those are rare. But isuzu didnt make the 10bolt, 7.5" rear axle till about 85. Same whith the 8bolt, 6.5" front axle.
