has anyone thought of making a custom intake manifold for dual carb for stock or aftermarket carb??
i have an extra complete LUV engine and i just had the thought of doing a dual carb setup since my buddy has an 85 Honda prelude with dual carb and its pretty quick for having the same displacement as my LUV at about the same overall size of vehicle
coupled with headers and a improved custom air intake that should push plenty of power out of my engine shouldn't it?
the more fuel you can get into the motor the more power you are capable of producing as long as there is a larger exhaust system to handle the increased flow correct?
im wondering if anyone has done this already or if my logic is a lil off which i wouldn't have a problem believing considering im 18 and fairly new to the automotive tuning world and don't claim to be an expert (yet).
but i have been running motocross bikes since i was 4 so i figure i have a bit of a background in it and i at least have the basics down
and being a college machining student i can easily customize my own parts or make them from scratch so if this whole thing does work i will gladly fabricate the setup for other enthusiasts without the giant waiting list that offenhauser puts on their parts for the LUV if anyone is interested

I am no expert either but I guess it all depends on the cfm of each carb as too much can be overkill for these little engines. Ctmandu had a dual sidedraft carb setup at one point. Maybe he'll pop in and give you some specs, ideas, info and his .02.

Dual stock carbs would be a nightmare. If you really want dual carbs, don't care about how it drives around town and want to fab an intake, look into Weber DCOEs. Hell, if you could fab an intake for a pair of SU carbs, I'd fork over some cash.

hmm....
thinking back to my motocross engine roots
im thinking if i re-jetted two stock carbs to lower the flow a bit so dont drown out the motor with too much fuel
if i can increase the air intake flow to 120% of stock and take 2 stock carbs and re-jet them so they each only flow in about 60% as much as stock that would give me 120% as much fuel/air flow into the engine and add lets see.... 5-10% more flow to each cylinder

this is pretty much guess work i am making using some simple math i have rolling around in my head at this point. but i believe that lowering the flow of each carb to about 60% but having 2 mounted up to the engine one carb for 2 cylinders, as well as increasing air intake to feed the dual carbs, coupled with exhaust headers would give me the ability to pull a bit more power in higher rpm and more fuel to burn at low rpm  giving an overall power increase while still being affordable.
anyone know anything about that? it sounds like it would work to me but i also dont have years of experience with these motors like most of the veterans of this site do so if anyone knows bout this whole process lemme know what you think! good idea or bad?

If lean enough jets are available for the Hitachis, you could pull it off.

yeah that was my thought but im not sure if i can find jets that small or not
and yeah thank ya i have been talkin to him about the R1 carb setup

does anyone happen to know where to pickup a decent higher flow fuel pump? im thinking about bolting on a small turbo at fairly low boost just to give me a bit more power since i now have a spare block and head to do my mock-ups on

who carries performance parts for the G180 engine? its a pain to find really anything other than OEM and thats even complicated. specifically high compression pistons

I hate to say it, but welcome to the world of the LUV truck. Parts are still available for them, but they're getting harder and harder to find. Especially performance parts. Don't let that disourage you though. If you want high-compression pistons, the G200Z Impulse came with flat-tops and they are readily available if you machine your block to fit them. If you're thinking turbo though, stick with the dished pistons.

I've been considering the turbo route myself. If you search the threads, you'll see it has been done before.

are the stock pistons strong enough for turbo?

i have an extra block, cylinder, well basically every engine part other than a crankshaft worth of an engine and was just gonna use the extra block to mock up my own custom turbo exhaust headers then put them in the truck once i have them finished to save time on the truck thank god for craigslist donor engines =) only had about 5 miles on it then was pulled for a buick 231 still has the factory hone and i ran the numbers its all good =) so that went in the old one came out and is going to be my spare/mockup block =) and since my uncle is a full time certified ASE mechanic i have the knowledge base on top of my idea so i might start producing turbo headers once i get it mastered so keep an eye on the forums later on in the next month or two... possible in stock turbo headers? it would be nice huh lol

anyone recommend a specific fuel pump? or is there one from a bigger truck i could put in there? maybe something from a v6 engine?

wow i wish gas was still "almost a buck a gallon"
but good info on that whole process im thinking im gonna make my own headers for a turbo and save a few hundred bucks and a month or more of waiting for it to show up at my door since ozgemini.com forum you sent me happened to tell me exactly how to do it :ebiggrin

thank ya, just posted a thread on the gemini site about the possibility of finding lean enough jets to run dual carb with a small-ish turbo and low to mild boost

very nice
its incredibly convenient that isuzu decided to put that motor in so many different vehicles
well im towing my LUV to my dads tomorrow to drop in the new engine and get it all set to go.
im thinking i might grab a little turbo from a car at pick n pull if it is in good shape and rig up some turbo headers (learned that one from ozgemini) and see if i cant break atleast 80 mph on that setup before i go for a 5 speed and a pup rear end since im not really into wheeling as it is i think im just going to remove my front driveline and put in a 2wd tranny
hey cat u dont happen to be looking to trade a few parts for a G180 block, head, and some components do ya? im in the market for a couple things and i have a lot of extra engine components from the engine thats coming out
