I am having to install a new wire harness in my LUV after someone tried to hotwire it Wednesday. My nieghbor woke me up at 3 am (he leaves for work around that time) and told me he saw someone in the truck and ran when called out. When we got to it, the wiring harness was smoking pretty good, so I just cut the battery wire to stop it. Thursday morning I went look at it and it was melted and fused together. So I dug out the universal wire harness I had put aside for my Ford truck and have been installing it. The one problem I have run into is the volatge regulator does not match up to the instructions. The LUV manual has the connections labled as "I-W-I-B-E-F-N", but the instructions have "F-2-3-4". "E-F-N" on the voltage regulator run to the "E-F-N" on the alternator and the first "I" on the voltage regulator goes to the condenser, so those are a no-brainer. According to the LUV manual, "W" runs to the charging lamp and fuel pump relay which are now deleted, so I was going to omit that wire. The second "I" runs to the fuse box and "+" on the coil resistor which I now assume I need to connect the alternator exciter wire from the new harness to. Does this sound right or make any sense to you? I really don't want to short the harness out.
