More frequently lately the A/C & heater fan doesn't start running when I start the engine. Sometimes it'll be a 30 seconds or so late. Other times it'll be a couple blocks down the street. Sometimes recycling the fan switch or selector knob seems to help. At my age, I like my A/C in the Summer and heat in the Winter and would like to fix this problem before I'm SOL. I've a couple of LUV manuals, but the wiring diagrams are so small, I need my bifocals and a magnifying glass. Anybody else experience this intermittent problem or have a clue what's causing it?

It sounds like you have a dead spot on the blower motor. It could be that one of the contacts of the commutator is burnt and when the motor lands on it, it has a tough time getting by it. Once it does it will spin fast enough that it wont be a problem. Hopefully this isnt the problem because getting to the blower motor is a pain.

Blue, I was thinking about the same possibility. Just didn't want to pull the motor until this heat tapers off. According to my Clymer manual, it looks like the motor comes out over the gas pedal. I was hoping that I'd hear about a common re-occuring defect.

I had the same problem, about the time the temp outside was reading 100! NO A/C.. I found the hot wire to the blower and hooked it to a lead on my fuse box. Now when i turn the ignition on my fan comes on automaticly. The only thing is.... i cant turn the fan up and down. It is allways on high , but i can live with that for now. When it cools off a bit i well replace the switch.Im not sure if the luvs blower motor is located in the same area for different years. Mine is a 79 and it is located inside in the center on the firewall. The blue wire well be your hot wire , and you can hook a temparary wire from it to your fuse box without much strain. Good luck.

Blue, I think you were right on. This afternoon when I left home the fan started right up. When I left my friends house, nada. I recyled the switch, still nothing. But when I hit about 5mph, it started. Sounds like the draft pushed the squirrel cage past a dead spot, so the fan could start.

I used to drive my ex-father in laws 70 Chevy truck that had that problem. I would have to pop the hood and try and spin the blower motor with a piece of plastic thru a hole in the firewall. It was a hassle but once it took off, it got the cab cool.
