Ive searched the forums but i cant really find much info on it.

everything looks very clean in the cooling system, i have removed the thermostat thinking it may be stuck shut.

It takes a while but it gets HOT like 230 degrees hot i dunno how much more it can take being aluminum head on cast iron block.

So i have two luvs i took the water pump off the parts one and my good one both look about the same and in good condition, so i dont really know what to check next, all i can figure is head gasket issue?

any ideas of things to check are appreciated.

Do not go crazy as I did with this. I went nuts trying to figure out why my truck was always overheating. This is what I did. Electric fan Fan Shroud all the way around thermostats radiator caps reinstalled heater core (run heat through truck) all in al didn't have anything to do with cooling system. Turned out that the clips on my diistributor when bad. SO while I was idiling anywhere in town the RPM?idle would creep up and evetually ovr heat the truck. Replaced the distributor and cap readjsuted all timing/idle speeds and no more overheating.

Have the radiator inspected by a "no-kidding" radiator shop. It can look brand new on the outside, but be entirely clogged on the inside. This happened on mine and no amount of flushing would clear it out. I drove the truck to a radiator shop, dropped it off and 2 hours and $60 later I had a perfectly functioning cooling system. Add $5 for a new cap for peace of mind and you're good. Taking the thermostat out only makes things worse IMHO, unless it is legitimately stuck closed. Also, the dinky 4-blade fan will cool just fine if everything is in order.

With that being said, make sure your timing is set properly and it advances when it should. Retarded timing will cause overheating. Finally, you're right in assuming the head gasket won't last much longer. Good luck!

Ok so i took pictures and ill try to explain it the luv im trying to get to stop overheating has had its water pump replaced, i know because of the blue RTV all around it. When I pulled the pump i noticed the housing the impeller uses was chewed up. The pump bushings where fine with no shaft play so here is what i think happened. The original water pump went bad big time bushings shot maybe because somebody tightened the belt too tight. Anyway if you look closely im missing alot of metal on the housing it may not look like much but look at the roundness of the water passageway and youll see theres is a lot of metal missing from that impeller contacting the housing. I took some pics of the good housing on my other luv and the screwed one on the current luv im working on.
