I bought it today for $100.
The truck has not been started for 3 years.
Owner stated everything work when parked it.
Hooked up fuel pump to a 5 gal gas can.
Motor started ran and no smoke. no water in the oil.
Water leaking out around the center ports exhaust manifold. The water is running down over top of the middle soft plug. Not sure where it is coming from.
Could it be a head gasket?

Auto trans doesn't work. Over filled by a quart is not more. Linkage works.
Is there anything else I could look at?

please be an easy fix.

I have a 1980 luv I have been driving it for 8 years and only completed a clutch replacement, points, cap rotor, brakes, and other normal stuff. I am a little lost on the water leak and auto trans

the water leak could be a cracked head but not sure as I dont under stand where its leaking but it could be the gasket too but then there should be water in the oil. also with a cracked head on the exhaust side there should be smoke coming out the tail pipe but you said there is no smoke. the auto trans why does it not work? drop the pan and see what lies with in.

My 76 truck runs good, but it leaks also. I leaked around the intake soft plug. Turn out to be the plug itself, it broke through when I pushed on it while looking for the leak. Hope this helps

Auto trans: Over full means the torque converter has leaked its fluid back into the pan. Did you run it long enough to let it refill? Probably several minutes, move the selector through all positions with the engine running. If none of this helps, yes, drop the pan. Best case, plugged filter, worst case defective pump.

thank you.
last weekend I was hoping to drive it home. It is still sitting at the old owners house about 10 miles away from my home. I will go back up there this weekend and give that a shot.

I should take some pictures. 5 gal gas can in the passanger side of the truck. fuel line running from gas can through firewall to fuel pump mounted on inner fender well. then to carb. using running lights to power the fuel pump. Things we do to get a truck home to work on some more.

Well I towed the truck home. Pulled thermastat out. Water leak stopped but found oil in the water. Truck runs good and no smoke. Transmission came back to life by running it in the driveway for 20 minutes or so. So I guess a head gasket is in order.
Next question
How is the best way to change a head gasket? What is the easiest way?
I will admit over head cam scares me. Never delt with Over head cams.

Go to E-Bay and order a factory manual, read the procedure, its not hard at all.
