First thing I would do is fix the fuel pump problem first. Wire it to the fuse box or find a wire that is energized when the key is on but naturally dies when the key is off. I don't know how high your engine idles but you seem to be on the right track. Maybe make sure your air and fuel mixture are good first then try adjust the idle. Maybe add a stronger pull back spring to it. And also your timing as you have mentioned. Make sure there aren't any vaccuum lines disconnected anywhere. My '79 idles perfect but my '81 idles a little high, I can kick it down but it will eventually go back to a bit of a high idle. It's getting better than 28+ MPG so I am going to deal with the high idle. Good luck and keep us posted. If this is your first time out here on the site....Welcome!
