ok, after i just got my truck fixed from wrecking it in the snow in december my trucks been about as bad as a v-8 on gas. i see no gas drip from the lines or anywhere under my car but it smells of gas really bad. i think mayber there could be something wrong with my carb? ever since my teacher fucked with it it has been running like this. anyone have any ideas? Its not fun especially how gas pices are, thanks.

-oh and i already know i could replace my carb with a motocraft carb but i dont want to do that first.

Don't you know that carburetor is French for ''leave alone''? Since it hasn't run right since somebody mess with it, I would try to find somebody that knows what their are doing to work on it. The float could be sticking. Look in the window at the front of the float bowl. That is something you can fix. Make sure it doesn't stick before starting to bend the adjusting tab.

This is something I learned from my dad. He was always messing with the carburetors on his stuff and none of it ever ran right. I have never touched the adjusting screws of the one on my 77 or let anybody else work on it. It still runs great.

Get somebody to straighten it out. Then buy a big hammer. Apply the hammer to the head of anybody caught with their hand within a foot of the carb.

Besides smelling gas, do you notice anything else? How does it idle?
How about when you go to drive it, how does it run then?

Pull out your oil dipstick and see if you can smell gas in the oil on it. If so you are running waaaaaaay to rich..which if you can smell gas you more than likely already are. Like the LABMAN said, I have two Luvs and a parts luv and have only had one problem one time with my carbs. IT was a snap to fix though. I try not to mess with mine if I don't have to...thay aren't like working on an old Quadrajet. Get a manual find the adjusting screws, with it running at operating temp turn the fuel adjusting screw in slowly until it just starts to stall the engine then back it off 1/4 turn. Check to see how it takes the gas...no back firing, no stalling/sputtering/starving for fuel. If it is back off another 1/4 turn....keep going with that. Adjust Air the same way but I imagine it's mainly with the fuel.
