Hello i am new to the luv communtiy. so here i have a 1979 chevy luv that is in no running condition. a friend that previously owned the truck had continued to run it hard after one of the cylinders quit firing. long story short the motor went with quite a bang, after alot of debating with myself i have decided to rebuild the luv truck and i am not totaly sure what all i am gonna need. i have found quite a few rebuild kits but some have things i think i need that others dont have included. im guessing i need new valves but idk im kinda lost here any help is appreciated.

Welcome. You have found THE site to help with all of your questions and problems. We will need more information as to just what needs to be done to the engine. Unfortunately, a loud bang could be many things. I would first remove the cylinder head, intake and exhaust manifold, and see what is what. Just keep posting with questions and using the search function to get good answers. Oh yea, update your profile so we can see where you are. Might be close to another LUVer!

It probably committed suicide to get away from those rims. Check compression, come back.....
