Ok have to questions really. I have a MSD 6A box that i bought to solve an earlier problem. I had got ahold of a 80s dizzy with the electic reg box and all of that but could never get it to produce so instead of figuring out why, I Dumbly though OH BOY LETS FIX IT with the MSD box!!! STUPID STUPID... Well gave up on all of that and took it back to stock almost have it running now (see rest of question below) . My question to anyone that has installed this is does this replace anything all together or is supposed to be in addition to everything else. I have it mounted in truck but not connected to anything. IF im currently getting this thing up and running should i hook it up anyway or wait until she is running like top... I curently have points but am waiting to here back from Pertronix with the right app for truck.... I also had to chuck the ballast resistor found out that it was the thorn in side for 5 months!!!! One little "well maybe IF" and vroomm Mutha Shut YO MOUTH... UGH So if i keep going im gonna have to by the resistor or the p-tronix or zap points.....

Sort of DUMB A QUESTION I know but I have the damb thing i might as well use it :signiagree

Moving on now that i can get it started need to figure how to keep it running... I can get the truck started it will idle/run with a little pedal fro about a minute or two and then it just quits. Kind of like a stutter and then nothing.... It will some times back fire a little.... I smell like un-burnt gas fumes too.. Cant get it running long enough to put a time light on it either...

I have weber. On one barrel it is black and nasty and a little smoke was coming out after she shut down... I tried holding the valves open but still notta....

Was trying to get weber downloads to work guess ill go straight to site...

Any Thoughts!!!

The box is a supplement to the ignition, doesn't replace anything, really...

It removes the ballast from the equation and uses the points as a low votage trigger. So even if the points are burnt but no short and uasable, you can get away with using them.

So in my current situation without the ballast resistor i should go ahead and hook her up then... IF i can omit it without ordering a new one save money for Petronix then switch wires when I get it in... now if i only new how to get this timing/carb crap down wish i had one of yall hear to show me this stuff or had my pops here... Ive only had one carbed vehicle (my first luv) and that was when i was sixteen and of course didn't pay attention to crap my old man taught me... Ugh I think im so close... Thanks for the Pic i was just looking at the directions when you sent it to me...

Thanks again!

I had no idea there was a pertronix swap for the factory dizzy.

as it is, you stand to gain nuthing by going to pertronix if you already have the MSD.

I would just hook up the MSD and run it through your exsisting points.

so with that... you will be removing the ballast resistor. Which was junk to begin with, if you have to go back to it... just replace it with a 70s mopar ceramic unit.
