Had windshield replaced yesterday. The rubber seal they put on was the one for the chrome trim. My chrome trim would not fit on the new seal. It looks like the seal needs an insert type chrome trim. My trim piece needs to fit into two grooves (cuts). I am going to take it back tomorrow and have the solid black seal put on. I would really like to have the chrome trim back on but the glass shop doesn't have the original type that I had. Has anyone had this issue when replacing their windshield.

Let us know what happens. I need to change my seal cuase it's leaking in the rain. I has the molding also, but molding is in bad shape. I was going to go with plain black.

Had the solid black seal put in, they could not find the seal I needed. I'm still going to try and find the seal for the chrome trim. I prefer the chrome look. After yesterdays rain, still leaks in the corner (driver side). They are going to check it out Friday to see why I'm still getting my feet wet......

You sure it's not the wiper arm seal in the cowl? I had a new windshield and seal put in and my feet are getting wet, I'm pretty sure that it's the wiper seal.

The original windshield seal were glued/sealed to stop the water leaks. On all the ones i have replaced i have had to cut the factory seal and clean up then put the glass and new seal in but with out sealing the rubber in they will leak in the corners.

I had the wiper seal leak in the past. I took care of that a few years ago. I can feel water in the corner under the dash. It looks like it is dripping down and hitting the vent rod and then my foot.

eq, is your truck a 79?

if i am not mistaken, there is a small rectangular plate behind the dash and under the cowl itself that is held in with one screw. i might be mistaken, but i remember seeing it on the driver side. i dont know exactly what it's for, but i know that mine was leaking until i made a new gasket and coated it lightly with some of that silicone stuff. take a look under there while you have someone spray the windshield lightly with water and get a good look at where the leak is coming from.

That's exactly where the water is coming from. I felt that plate and it wet all round that area.

well that means two things.

first, the small rubber seal around the windshield wiper arm on the driver side is not doing it's job. use a spark plug boot to replace it since we all have had a hard time finding it new. besides , it works better.

second, the plate's seal is gone too. most likely due to heat and time.
get yourself some gasket material from o'reillys or autozone or wherever, and make your own gasket and lightly coat it with some silicone. the ATV gunk stuff works well.

hope you get it taken care of!

How do you remove the plate.
I replaced the wiper arm seals with spark plug boots and that stopped the water from getting in that way.
