Hey all,
So I just want to start out by saying i am really impressed with this group. You guys are quick to lend advice and dont scoff at stupid questions. Thanks for your help!

So i have a 77 luv and i recently replaced a head gasket. it all started when i blew an oil filter seal and after that i was getting white smoke so it had to be done. I am wondering what the initial cause for the blown oil filter was? was it the antifreeze in the oil? From what i have read it might be the oil pump? would i have to take the engine out in order to do this. i dropped a cable tie down the timing chain area and think i should get that out of there before i start it up engine so i need to take the oil pan off. can i do this without moving the engine? a lot of quesitons i know. thanks in advance for your help

as far as i know, the oil "system" is pressurized and in the oil pan area, there should be a pressure relief valve that prevents something like that from happening. it could be that the valve is clogged or missing.

i dont THINK you have to remove the engine, but i know that if its a 4WD, you will indeed need to remove or at least lift the engine to clear the pan.
