so i just got a full head gasket kit in her. bought it with a blown head gasket. she ran like a top for 100 miles and now lost all power. cuts out real bad, and has horrible hesition. i took the egr junk off the bottom of the intake and fabbed a plate to cover using new gaskets and sealer. had to use the old carb gasket but seems to hold. and she runs wicked cold (blocked radiator, and took out fan!!). i shot pb blaster at both carb base and intake bottom and intake gaskets. head no rise or fall in rpms. i thought it might be points but they looked 100 miles ago. i also did all ingnion at the same time. im stuck and driving in 8 inches of snow. thanks to all

You took the fan off? Try replacing the thermostat, maybe it's completely worn out and not holding enough back flow. Mine takes a while to heat up with the weather we've been having lately but it does heat up to operating temp at about the time I get to work. There are guys out here that have removed the EGR valve and pipe and I think I remember them saying they had to adjust the timing afterwards. I might be wrong. That's something I will be doing in the nost month or so. I know TAZMAN out here has done it and I have read some of his work. Maybe try a PM to him if he doesn't jump in on the thread.

thanks. if i dont see him i will track him down. the thermostat is brand new. but they can be faulty right away. most of my driving is highway and 45+. so the fan is pretty much usless. i plan of putting a electric pusher on soon just incase. but for now it has totally helped. i will check the thermostat again. there is someone around you that wanted to sell me a reappolstered seat for my luv. i cant spring it but it was 50 bucks and on craigslist

I saw it advertised on craigslist. I have a spare so I didn't call on it. In fact if you need one let me know. Mine are definitely used but if you are ever this way and need a seat I have one you can have. Let me know if you ever need me to look at anything this way for you. I'd be glad to take pics or ask any questions an e-mail them to you.

Truck won't heat up. Now that's not usually a problem. No fan, new thermostat, cardboard in front of radiator and it still won't heat up. Damn, I really don't know an answer to this one.

i am greatfull for the open eyes and would be happy to return the favor. and will be looking at a trip to you in the thaw. my seat is collapsed with a foot of foam on top to bring back to level. its all torn to hell and has a blanket over it. a seat is deffinetly on the agenda. i am not sure what the deal is with the heating up, i am going to replace the thermosate again. i am putting new carb gaskets and adding washers to my egr blocking plate in hopes to get my assumed vacume leak to go away. im on list for a offy intake and used webber in the works. so i dont want to kill my self over the stock stuff

I have a seat out of my son's Luv just lying in the bed of my parts truck. Plus the seat in the parts truck itself. Like I said they show signs of use but they are in fair to decent shape. What color are you intersted in?

You shot PB blaster at the carb? Maybe look into your accelerator pump (that stuff might have ate the little diaphragm in there). Look down the carb throat and pump the gas. If fuel squirts, then all is good with the accelerator pump. That would take care of your hesitiation...

Definitely in agreement with the faulty thermostat idea... mine's busted, but I live in CA, so it's not as big a deal.

Electric fans are a wonderful thing... ask if you need help.

thanks much. i shot the pb at the base to see if it was drawing air. thanks for all thoughts. i put a new base gasket and filled the egr passage with jb weld. all seems to be back in order. as for the seat my truck is blue. but will probley end up with a camo or saddle blanket seat cover. the integridy is most important to me than the color. thanks again and i got a new thermo on order. i pulled the cover while the carb was off and it was almost effort less to push the plunger down. if you have installed the electric fan did you hook it to a switch or temp sensor as i dont want to have to think about it. sorry for bouncing around. kinda doing a couple things at once

Yeah, I have my electric fan hooked up to a thermostat unit. Summit Performance sells a few, but surf eBay first.

I found mine by searching: "thermostatic electric fan control". I bought the adjustable unit.

The mechanical fan on the front of your engine (if you don't have the fancy clutched one that came with A/C trucks) steals about 5hp from the back tires... even when it's doing nothing important. Put an electric fan on before the pertronix... it's cheaper, and it'll free up a few more of the 80 horses under the hood.

Yup, mine's a pusher. I put it on the front of the radiator. Was a little worried about pully clearance, but there's one heckuva lot of room there in front.

This fan is similar to the one I used. I bought a 10", but I wish I had gone bigger. This one's a 16": http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/16-Slim- ... 5884f90e6a

I used this control unit. It was pretty easy to install: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Derale-1 ... 5637edc647

Of course, feeBay, where else?
