pretty much the title states it all. my gauge out of nowhere stopped working. im thing becuase theres no sensors on the 80's that it could just be stuck? any other ideas? thanks

Either the gauge or the sending unit. Probably the sending unit.

I forget where it is on those trucks, but you'll have one wire going to a screw-in bung-type unit (kind of like the oil pressure sending unit) on the block, probably up top somewhere. Someone here can surely tell you where it is for sure.

Find it and replace it.

More than likely the wire just popped off the sending unit. It's directly under the thermostat, so you're gonna need a mirror to check. Also, before you go buying parts, check to see if the gauge is working by grounding the lead that connects to the sending unit. If it peggs the gauge on the hot side, then the gauge is good. If it doesn't, the wiring or the gauge is bad.

lol last night after i posted this, i did decide to check the sending unit and sure enough it was popped off :lol: . thanks for your help
