the pin looking thing.. it almost looks like a brad nail. its the big piece of metal in the left upper portion of the pan... im wondering where the heck it came from. tomorrow i should have the tranny out or the next day since i might get home late tomorrow... but i am planning on pulling the whole thing apart and trying to rebuild it so i dont know how its going to turn out. its my first attempt at working on a tranny

The EGR pipe is definitely a pain in the you know what, but it has to come off.

well i have a bit of a story to tell... the tranny is out now but my wife is in trouble. so this is how it goes.... its a bit lengthy

one day a big strong man decides to work on his favorite vehicle. which just so happens to be a chevy luv. you may wonder what he has to do to his chevy luv to get it going? well it just so happens this man needed to take a transmission out of his truck and rebuild it. while everything seemed to be going good to the man, little did he know there was trouble afoot. he huffed and he puffed for 4 hours to get everything disconnected from the transmission, and all went well for him. he has the jacks and the blocks and is getting ready to take the last two bolts off the top of the tranny... but he began to feel a little disheartened at the location. shall i go from the top? shall i go from the bottom? these questions go around and around this poor mans head. well ill just try from both directions he thinks. if one fails there is always the other. well from the drivers side he can just get to it and make his wrench turn about a 1/2 at a time. so the frustrated man finally pumps his fist not only to proclaim his dominance and determination over the bolt, but also to regain feeling to his arm after the 2 hour battle. so you think this man is going to claim vitory over the last evil bolt the same way? oh no. little did the man know there was evil smog equipment laying in wait to foil his attempts at the setting of the sun. the man goes around the truck while flipping his wrench excited that his battle is almost at its end. the man looks up at the sun starting to sink over the houses across the way and decides to shed a little light on the subject. so the man now can see what was not illuminated to him earlier neither the top or bottom would work to get to the last bolt.... the man sits and thinks well what can i do? he goes a searching and a scrounging and finds an assortment of extensions that equal about 3 foot long or so. he thinks himself so smart that he will just go from behind the transmission to get to the bolt. well his plan was well thought out. he was able to get to the bolt and after 3 hours and a wife that came nagging that it was getting late it came out. well he told that very same wife that he was busy and wanted some food that he would be done in about 15 minutes. the wife acquiesces and says she will run and go get some food, and stop by her aunts house to pick up our gallon of milk we left there earlier that day. well the man sets his mind to it and with a last look at his service manual and all steps but the last are complete. he climbs back under to pull the tranny out. well he jimmys and jerks and he gets that thing loose. when all of a sudden tranny fluid starts pouring out all over his face and neck and down his shirt. what can i do but keep on the man thinks... well when that very same tranny got stuck on the exhaust pipe and then couldn't be budged he knew that in his deepest of hearts he was screwed. why is that you may wonder? well that man knew. there was no step saying you had to remove the exhaust pipe from the manifold. well there you have it, the eternal struggle of man vs machine. you think he had an easy time of it? well you would think that the wife would of been right back in 10 minutes like she said right? to hand him the socket that was different from the only other one holding the exhaust on to the manifold? no. that as the man who is newly a husband found out the lie to the wife's words. when he had a 14mm to do the one but the 13mm was all the way across the driveway, as far as a mirage for the man dying of thirst. well the man thought. i will just hold this tranny in place with my brute strength until my wife gets back to help me. as in the vows she said to him the day they were wed. she will be there for me when she is needed. well for the sake of saving your eyes from reading much more. i will not tell you the nasty and vile things the man thought of his wife as first 15 then 20 minutes go by. nor will i say a word at what he wanted to do to his wife after first 35 then 45 minutes ticked by with the mans strength starting to drain. well when the mans wife finally showed up after an hour and 15 minutes with cold food she found her husband struggling to hold back vile words and a vile temper as his arms shook with exhaustion and rage. when she finally did hand him that very much needed socket after he had to explain what a socket was. he was able to keep holding that transmission up with one hand and wrench on that last bolt to undo the exhaust pipe, and it finally gave way to this mans physical prowess only to discover that it did not go down the needed length so the transmission could come all the way free. the previous owner had welded the catalytic converter on right behind the cross member and it would not come off so he could pull the exhaust forward that much needed couple of inches. well the man thought about what to do and decided to cut his losses. he chose to just cut the exhaust out as he still held the transmission in place. well when the pipe fell away and the transmission came clear the man could finally declare mastery over the truck and get up to use the bathroom.

the end

hope this entertained some of you. and made others smarter.

Yes that was entertaining, and words of wisdom. Waite till you have kids and set down your socket and find that they magically disapear. lol
