Hello all, new to this board, and new to the LUV. unfortunately i dont own one myself, but my friend just bought a 79 4x4 that is light blue with white racing stripes and a large 4x4 decal on the hood and side panels.

anyway to the issues. the wiper motor wont turn on and the front turn indicators do not work while the rear ones do. Also the stereo will not work either.

I was wondering if these are common problems and are easy to diagnose and repair, or if i have to tear out all the wiring and re do it myself.

Thanks!

I also remembered that the check engine light is on, and where do you check the codes to figure out what the problem is

Check engine light? If I remember correctly, OBDI didn't show up until around '85, and you said that you're speaking of a '79?

Most of what you've described is likely a wiring problem. Or two. Under information on the main page, there's a wiring diagram for that year.

Maybe try checking the bulbs in the front... they might be burnt.

Check that you have a good ground on the front turn signal wiring.

also check if the hazards are working. i had a problem with mine where the turn signals would not work on the left side, but changing the flashers for both turn and hazards fixed that. and of course check the bulbs to make sure they are indeed still operational

as for the wiper motor, check to see the switch is plugged in all the way into the plug and that you are getting power to it as well. also, check for power at the motor itself and if you are getting power, it could be that the motor is either seized or just plain burnt out. hope this helps!

And welcome!

oh, and as far as a check engine light is concerned, you should take a picture of that and post it here. ive never heard of a 79 with a check light for ANY vehicle prior to 1984. and then obd was only on some models....
