 Post subject: where is the damn thing?

an electrician i am not, but i do reasonably well.

however, i need to find out where the heck im supposed to connect the white wire off my new tach? i know its supposed to be connected to the ignition wire, but i havent found it. i used to the old gm fuse blocks that have IGN clearly marked....

PS a picture would be a BIG help

Out on the fender at the coil, you have a thing bolted to the the coil. It has a wire from the fuse box, and a wire to the coil. I think you want the wire from the fusebox.

hmm sounds like thats it. i have the tach running from one of the instrument lights.

What tach do you have. Usually they are red = keyed hot, should not be taken from coil, Green = coil negative, Black is ground and Blue or White is from instrument light, turns on light with all other lights for night time, or can be connected to ignition.

its an old smiths tach that i pulled from a 60's MG midget. i emailed a few MG enthusiasts about it and found out what goes where. its also designed in a way that the connectors in the rear of it are different types of plugs. that makes it almost foolproof to install, but since i pulled it from a car that was already torn up, i couldnt tell what was what.

found out that i had 4 wires: red for the light bulb, black for ground, green for signal, and white for ignition. i just couldnt tell where the ignition wire was. i ended up wiring it to the same red wire as the lightbulb wire. planning on changing it this afternoon
