Higher oil pressure, if put in a lot more than needed you could blow out your seals.

your seals can blow out, high oil presure, and it might start smoking. If you only ran the motor high on oil for a little bit then there will probly be no lasting damge.

little story on overfilling oil:

a buddie of mine got a 1980 ford bronco once (one of the full size broncos) and if you started it up on flat level ground, everything was fine. but if you took it up a hill or tilted it side to side it would smoke like a freight train. had us puzzled for awhile. then he drained the oil to change it. it had 14 DAMN QUARTS IN IT!!!!! 8O ....seems what was happining was. the dipstick tube was gummed up and when the previous owners would check the oil it would wipe it clean. showing it was low so they would put more oil in it

well after we put the correct amount in it, it rattled and ran like shit. every damn seal in it was blown :x

A story from an old mechanic, My Dad

If you overfill you crankcase to a point where the crank's counter balance weight dips into the oil pool it will start to aerate the oil. It may not foam up like a milk shake but will put out tiny air bubbles in the oil. With air in the oil it will lose the lubricating properties and start to smoke the bearing and seals. I quess with air in the (heated) oil would also produce a higher oil pressure reading as a by-product.

He (my dad) worked on the US Air Force Turbo Prop engine so I guess he must of known his stuff back then.

Sounds good doesn't it
