Hi, I am a new member, I have something on my bucket list. I using a 4x4 chevy luv frame and looking for a somewhat of a small engine. Eather a 225 cid or if possible a 3800. I want to have a lot of torque. Unsure what about the axels maybe Dana 40 with 4.10 ratio. But I thought I read someplace the automatic luv's had a 4.11 I want to set up to do a four-wheel burnout. A whole lot of work. I figure 4-5 years. I have ESRD. Which means my kidneys do not work. I could die in my sleep. What an issue. anyway I want to build this before I poop out. Low funds. But I am trying to get things done in the next 4-5 years. I have a list to work with. I do not want to have anything to bring the project to a halt. If anybody wants to give advice I am willing to listen. Geo

X2 on the above.
4X4 Chevy LUVs came with an Isuzu corporate 10-bolt rear (7.64" ring gear) & 8-bolt front (+/- 7" ring gear) open differentials in 4.10 gear ratio. Neither is strong enough for multiple 4-wheel burnouts, especially the front. The front CV axles are also too weak and replacement parts are non-existent. Since both differentials are open with no front & extremely limited rear locker option the only practical way to ensure all wheels spin together is to weld the gears. This eliminates any practical on-road use, even with front lock-outs the rear will skate around all corners. Welding is non-reversible, it's a permanent modification.
Can you do this? Yes, but not with "low funds". Will it last? No, and you'll never recover your expenses from what's left after it breaks.
