I've never tried either swap, so I can't say for sure. I'd guess you'd have less trouble on a longbed to longbed swap, just because the length problem would not be as bad.

My idea was to swap an 86ish Trooper rear mount tank in place of the spare tire. It holds more than 20 gals, should close to triple the range if the stock tank was left in place.

Have fun getting rear ended, when I did the bumper went to crap and the "c" part of the frame bent.... the spare tire cushoned the impact

The Trooper tank can handle the impact, so you wouldn't have to worry about your Luv turning into a Pinto, and if you set it back far enough you shouldn't have a problem.

I noticed that a 72 has the spare tire crank hole on the right side of the bed about 12 inches from the back. I also noticed that the 72 has the 4 way flasher on the e brake bracket.

Someone in an earlier post was looking for the drop down, or crank down spare tire holder for underneath the bed on their stepside bed. I had thought that all the stepside beds were aftermarket. Did Chevrolet offer a Luv Truck with a stepside bed?

Which translates pretty closely to a 195/75R14 in modern metric sizing. I think the wheels are 14x5, but I'm not 100% sure on that width.

I've noticed in the Chilton manual for Luvs that changing any of the timing componets, all pictures and detail are of the older engines with the dual timing chain setup, I had someone rework the head on my 80 and they told me the firing order for these engines start from the back, in other words #1 cylinder is at the back(firewall). Is this true?????

No... The firing order is 1-3-4-2. If you study the pattern backwards like the machinist says, the order would be the same as 4-2-1-3. This is 180 degrees off.
1-3-4-2-1-3-4-2-1-3-4-2-1-3-4-2

4-2-1-3-4-2-1-3-4-2-1-3-4-2-1-3

A simple swap of plug wires will correct this. As long as the crank and cam are timed correctly to each other.

Well, looks like we're both wrong roadshow, i found out the hard way that the tank in my 84 auto L/B is a 13.2 i think... lets just say i found out "the hard way" that it wasn't... BTW, it's a diesel so maybe that has something to do with it?

I just got a manual trans. from a 77 and learned that the hydraulic clutch set up has the T O bearing fork on the right side of the bell housing.
My cable clutch set ups in my 78 and 80 have the fork on the left of the bell housing.
Anybody else ever noticed this?

Today is very cold, 21°F @8:56 PM, but earlier in the day I put on the sun visors that I got yesterday. I got a matched pair off a '72. I was surprised to find they came with a center hookup that screws up with the mirror mount. The original sunvisor on my '78 just hung from the swivel bracket and had no center accomodation.

It seems this is a very relevant bit of information to anyone who might want to make their LUV better. I can't say whether this was just an option or not.

Sorry, no pics today. I can't get in the door 'cause it's frozen. I should've done it earler today. Later, I promise.

Incorrect, they started putting them on in 1976 as per the Chevy parts manual.
