[quote="theLUVman"]1978- first year for round gauges just to clarify that

1979- muffler was moved to where the spare tires usually went for 78 and 80. i think this was the only year it was here. spare tire went on a mount atached to the inside of the bed behind the driver.

I have a 79 Mikado, the spare tire is under the bed

I think I posted about the spare in the bed deal before. California 4X4 had the spare tire in the bed due to the muffler being mounted where the spare usually was due to the cat converter being mounted where the muffler usually was. Also the exhaust exits on the other side of the truck then the 2wd models. I am working on all the info in this thread and more info I find.

This thread could use some updating and corrections. I can see even a few things that aren't right in my original post. Been a long time, learned a few things since then. :)

So, something I have not seen on here, and I just finished reading through all 9 pages of this thread. What year did they change the master cylinder to incorporate the proportioning valve separate from the master, and the ports come out the passenger side instead of the driver's side? If my research through NAPA i correct, this appears to be a 1979 change. I can tell you that my 79 has it, and my 74 and 75 have the older style with the fron lines being split right at the cylinder.
