So I got back from korea from a four month jont of military life. I decided to nock the dust off of the LUV and figure out what the hell was going on. I had figured before i left what was causing my freaking overheating problems. My clips on the dizzy were not holding the damb thing in place and the thing was moving messing up my timing and then overheating. So when I got back had some dough in pocket and replaced the asociated parts. Doing so and geting all of the damb wires back to where they were suposed to be replaced a damb fuse after an hour or two of head scratching. Finally got it to start. I dont have a timing gun so budy and I did ear trick one way then the other until found happy medium. Worked great so I thought let it run at idle to see if weber electric choke would cut off it did everything is groovy. Took it for a spin whenever put the foot in pedal would hesitate and then back fire. Eventually would die and tehn not start again. I was in my orchard just pushed it back while my fiance made VROOOMM noises cant say that I enjoyed that!! Next day started right up couldnt get it to back fire under the hood but took it out and under load it craps out.

So short and sweet

Have sotck engine
Weber
Offy

I dont have a fuel regulator on my truck thats what im leaning towards doing thinking that the pump is flooding the weber out.

Or my timing is all out of wack.

Comments?
Thanks

When it backfired did you notice a cloud or puff of black smoke out the exhaust? That would mean flooding. Plus the other problems you mentioned could also be excess gas...crapping out under a load and eventually dying. As far as timing, does the starter seem to struggle hard to turn the engine over? Timing would be to high. Does it seem to really spin the engine over faster than normal? Timing to low. I have never had a timing issue with my Luv's but I have had this with other rigs I've had in the past. Not so much with electronically controlled ones anymore though. Welcome back from Korea. BTW, the comment about your fiance driving and making vroooom noices while you pushed...priceless.

Get the timing correct first, then go from there. Nothing more fun than than getting two problems mixed together.
