My truck overcools on the freeway and when driving. But when I sit and idle it eventually overheats. What's a good way to fix this. Use the clutch fan or go with an electric fan. I've got a 79 4x4 with offy intake, weber, headers, and a flowmaster. Please let me know guys, thanks in advance.

try

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=17789 for info on pusher fans and the condition of most LUVs cooling

etc

But for you it sounds to me like your truck doesn't have a functioning thermostat (not getting hot enough on the freeway) and you may have timing issues (overheating at idle).

thanks for letting me know. It's a new thermostat so it's probably the timing. I'm gonna tackle it in a couple weeks and see if I can fix it. Thanks again!

I was having the same problem with my truck of course i went around my elbow to get to my a hole! New fan i did the overflow tube with a water bottle but nothing worked. I noticed my crap pile idling high i kept setting the timing back and it would happen again. Found out that the Dizzy cap was moving not the whole dizzy just the cap. The clips were no good on it so i got a whole new one and was good to go. Wish i would have noticed it first.

Good luck.

had the same problem with mine but it was just a bunch of crap in the radiator. Blew it out and it worked fine.
