O.K.gang...just got an '81 4x4 and want to get some more ponies outta the thing but don't really want to go with a engine swap..(kinda like the original stuff)...This thing climbs like a mountain goat but lacks a wee bit on the power when asked for..help me out here..I was so jazzed to find a site dedicated to the LUV as I used to own a '76 that was alot of fun and sure do like the style...Got the 4x4 for the son but he strayed on me and went with a Bronco...(A ford?? YIKES!!!) anyway, help me with some stock power...Don't need to run in the 12's but do need to be on top of the hill next to the big boyz...lay it on me !!!!!

I think the first question should be, is passing smog a concern?

Hey cheetua,

I also have an 81 4x4 and know just how you feel ,well I did, go to J.C. Whitney and check out exaust they sell a header from pace setter bolts right up and make a night and day difference in power! If smogging the vehicle is a concern then try running some good quality plugs and get all the ignition parts cleaned up real good or replaced and run some good sythetic oil. and check into the weber carbs on the market mine works great. and if you can get away with no smog then tear it all off and get the header. Hope this helps Im sure I'll think of something later...

Dave

There was a few people around here selling intakes and stuff for stock motors awhile back. The search button is your friend. :)
