I went to roll down my passagner side window and the the glass game out of the track.
After I found the track, I fount that about half of it was corroeded by rust. Since my doors have the wing windows, are the tracks different than the standard door? I'm asking because if its a hard to find part, I might just have a welder make me a new one.

Bummer. I imagine that is a hard piece to find because of where it is. I suspect anyone handy with tools/metal bender can make you a new one fairly inexpensive.

Good luck.

Go to an auto glass shop, they can help you out. They can also take the bottom piece off the channel and braze it to a new channel. Many years ago when I did glass work we did it all the time...

I tried my local glass shop, but they didn't do fabrication. I'm going to go to a welder I know how works on car chasis and have him see how much he'd charge. =)

One thing the glass shop mentioned: They could not get the rubber or the felt that sits in the between the track and the glass. Anyone have any links to companies that produce the rubber and felt? Thanks! 8)

I found a shop that does sheet metal and fabrication.
The shop used the old rusted track and the rubber as the template to make the new one.
Then cut off the the guide (not sure if thats the right name) and welded it to the new track.
He left the lenght of the track just a little longer than the rubber. Better a little too much, than not enough.

Here's a pic of the old track, new track, and rubber

Same picture but with the new track flipped over to show you the guide that was welded

Here's a close up of the new track. Notice the little ridge on the outside. The sheet metal guy did a good job of replcating the original shap.

The rubber is moderate condition. The rust from the orignal track took a bit of a toll on it.
I looked at JC Whitney. They have 11 styles of window regulator rubber. However none seemed to really match the stock rubber. Anyone want to use the link below and give me their 2 cents on if any of those styles will work?

I went ahead and used the stock rubber for the track. I would make a note that the arm with the roller needs to be attached to the track before the putting the glass inside the rubber.
I'm going to put some lithium grease on the roller.

Well I still seem to have a probem with the track and the glass. When I go to rull the window down, the glass pops out ofthe rubber and track. I'm thinking of going ahead and getting a replacment from JC Whitney. Has anyone bought this rubber before, or a from a different company?

Well I mailed a piece of the rubber channel to restoration sepecialites. They called me today and said the rubber for the Luv is not like any of th other channels that they make. I asked if they could fabricate a new one, but said is so many words that it was not cost effective to fabricate one.

Anyone else know of any companies make rubber channesl for doors?
I think I will check with the sheet metal shop tha tmade me the metal channel.

in the spirit of isuzu, you might try checking some other isuzu vehicles in the junk yard for the rubber you need, even if you found something that was too long, you could always shorten it down to what you need, also if yuor brave you might try bend the outside of the track inward a bit to give it some more grip(just a thought) be carefull, and mabye if you do it this way you should to the bending fo the metal without the glass in place...

That's a good idea to check some of the other isuzus. I think I'll look for a pup or a trooper and see what i can find out. Not sure about bending the metal. The old rubber was detoirated from the rust, so I'm thinking less rubber to grip the glass.
I will make a trip to Pick N Pull and post what happens.

My local pick n pull (you pull it) didn't have any Luvs. However In city of Rancho Cordova (near Sacramento), they have speaclized wrecking yards. I found one that specializing in Isuzu and another one with Chevys. I will give them a call. It be cool if the newer Isuzus used the same rubber, then it might be easier to obtain that part for others that need it. :ebiggrin

I didn't have much luck with the local wrecking yards of finding another rubber piece for the track on the glass. I went back to the glass shop, and I asked them what they did when they replaced the door glass, but are unable to get that rubber replacment. The tech told me the use an apoxy to hold the glass in place. He said it's hard to tell how long the apoxy last (comparing that to the rubber).

I then went to Napa Auto, and asked them about their apoxy. They told me that apoxy becomes brittle, and that JB Weld, would be more durable.
So if you've used JB Weld and/or apoxy, I'd like to get your 2 cents on that.
Thanks!

I did look at thier examples on their website, but it looked like the tabs were face inward instead of outward.
Let me know how those samples go.

I'm waiting on a new metal channel for the other door, but I am going to try a product called "Seam sealer".
I will make a post later on that.

Moparich is researching JC Whitney for the rubber channels. Has anyone else ordered from a different company? Thanks! 8)
