Hey everyone, Up until recently I felt very fortunate that I didn't have many electrical problems with my '80 4X4. I did a search on my problems with the electrics but to no solution. So here goes.
I recently upgraded to an 81/82 ignitor w/coil, new/remanufactured distributor (from Rock Auto), new plugs, wires, rotor, and cap. The engine runs better now than with the old points. All electrics worked fine before the upgrade.
Now my electical problems begin. The headlights and all other lights won't come on unless the engine is running, the turn signals work (slowly) but the bypass relay "clicks" now. According to my search, this relay is going bad. The fuel pump relay is still connected up even though the fuel pump has been hardwired from a separate switch (not by me), so obviously this relay went bad long time ago. From the search I found ways to check the relay for continuity, which I will do this weekend. One of my questions is, since I have the new electronic ignition installed, can those 2 relays be totaly removed and the wires connected together, either hardwired or with fuses? Or should I get aftermarket relays to replace them?
I hope that all this makes sense.
Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Dozer
